Compare and Contrasts
Well first of all these are all great services. These services can provide an alternative to cell phones. Google, Skype, and Yahoo are all free, and all offer video chat services. These Services are all really cool because you can actually see the person that you are talking too. However in order to use these programs you have to be connected to the internet, and the other person you want to talk to has to be using the same service.

I’ll start off with Skype. Skype has some cool things that Google and Yahoo don’t. It has the ability to let a person search for other people by name, e-mail address, or Skype name. Skype also had a cool perk that allows a person to view their chat history. The other services only offer searches by their online names. Skype also offers a few different online status options, that Google does not offer at all and Yahoo only offers two. It was very easy to figure out how to start and end a call on Skype as well. The other services were not as intuitive as Skype. Google chat I thought was near impossible to figure out how to start a video chat, but once you did it was the most boring service out there. Yahoo chat had a pretty easy call start and call end process too, but I just liked Skype better.

Now I thought Google was the worst of all the services. The only thing Google chat offered that Skype and Yahoo didn’t was simplicity. Skype, and Yahoo both had more options available, games to play, and the option to text and talk. There is not much to say about Google chat except for that the video quality was decent compared to Skype and Yahoo. However, once you got Google chat up and running it got very boring very fast. Google didn’t offer game play between you and your buddy, a text option, or any other options like Skype and Yahoo offered. Besides being boring, I found Google’s interface to be very difficult to use. It took me the longest time to figure out how to make a call.

Yahoo would be my second choice in video chat services. Some really cool things that Yahoo offered which no other service had were the ability to create an avatar, translate incoming and outgoing messages, and you can change the background of that chat window. However, I thought Yahoo’s video quality was the worst. The other services had better video quality. I also thought Yahoo was difficult to use. Skype was easier to use, and Google was the hardest to get started. One great thing I liked about Yahoo was the ability to play games with your buddy. The games option is a great tool if you are having a dull conversation and need to spice things up. Skype also had game play available, but Google did not. Yahoo was overall a good service. The interface was not that hard to use, and the quality of service and excitement of Yahoo chat was good as well, but I found Skype to be just a little bit better in every category.

My favorite service out of all of these was Skype. I really liked all of the options that Skype offered like all of the games. The video service was not the best, but not one service’s video or sound quality was much better than the rest. I also like that Skype’s only business is video chat, unlike Yahoo and Google which do e-mail and many other things, which divert their attention to other services of their company. Skype also had the easiest interface to navigate around. Many things on Skype I found to be very intuitive like making a call, choosing someone to talk to, searching for people, and playing games. Overall I liked skype because it had good quality, it was easy to use, and it was fun.

Lab 14

I know you have been looking into expanding your local toy store, so I’ve been doing some investigations for you. I first went looking at some properties you could buy at prime locations, but then I came up with an even better idea that will save you tons of money. The answer is e-commerce. Using e-commerce your store will be in millions of homes, businesses, schools, mobile phones, etc, basically anywhere with internet access. You won’t have to hire any employees, or buy property. I’ve done some ground work and found three e-commerce programs than can work for your company. Below I am going to list the three software programs with their features, pros and cons, and then pick the one I think will work best for your company and why. The three programs that can provide the start for your e-commerce business are Zen Cart, osCMax, and PrestaShop.

∙ Features

Payment

Each software program offers different ways to send and receive the payment for the products. Zen Cart says that paypal and many other popular merchant services are provided, but does not specify which ones. osCMax offers many payment modules like authorized.net, paypal, linkpoint, cash on delivery, standard osC Credit Card, EFS Net, Geo Trust QuickPayments, ipaymeny, Check/Money order, NOCHEX, PayBox Credit Card, 2CheckOut, PSIGate, and SECPay. And PrestaShop offers payment by bank wire, Google Checkout module, Cash on Delivery, and Paypal.

Foreign Countries and Currency

Your business now has the ability to go international with these programs. Zen Cart says that it program has multiple language support, and multiple currency support. However, Zen Cart again does not specify which languages or currencies. osCMax does not say directly that it has multiple language or currency options but it does give a Country/State drop down which can mean that they cater to other countries. Presta Shop says that its software has 13 default language translations, unlimited currencies, and unlimited carriers and destinations.

Coupons, Vouchers, Discounts

Zen Cart gives your company the ability for the customer to have access to coupons and gift certificates that are easily handled by both customers and administrators. osCMax does have coupons and vouchers available for the company to make available to the customers along with Customer Loyalty Discounts (which will keep customers coming back). While PrestaShop offers the option for special deals, which allows for price reductions and gift vouchers for their customers.

Shipping

Zen Cart has the ability for the customer to view a shipping estimator which enables the customer to view the estimate of how much the shipping will cost for a particular product. osCMax does their shipping per product and has the following options for the shipping module of your choice: FedX Direct Real Time Quotes v2.04, UPS XML v1.1.5, USPS Methods v2.7d + insurance, Flat Rate, Per Item Shipping, Table Rates, and Zone Rates. And PrestaShop gives the customer and company delivery status notification e-mails.

∙ Pros and Cons

The strong pros of Zen Cart are the options that the customer has for making payments, and shipping estimates. However, a major con Zen Mart has to be its vagueness about such things like its payment options, languages, and currencies. osCMax had some good pros which were all of the shipping, and payment modules it has to offer. Where osCMax lacks is in the international department. This software never directly says if or how it caters to people internationally. The pros of PrestaShop are that it offers 13 default language translations, unlimited currencies, and unlimited carriers and destinations (which can expand business a lot). But PrestaShop does not offer as many payment options like osCMax does.

∙ Final Decision

After researching all of the different software and analyzing the pros and cons, I have reached a decision on which program would be best for your company. I believe that PrestaShop is the software for you. PrestaShop seems more customer friendly, and has fewer barriers on who can buy your product and where the product can be sent. I think this software enables your company to expand further and reach more people compared to the other types of software. Hopefully I helped in the decision to go into e-commerce. If you choose the software I proposed I just know your company will take off.

To me this picture is amazing. It is weird how we can have satellites in the middle of nowhere transmitting signals everywhere. I wonder "Who keeps track of all this". Are they getting all of their information from one or more sources?

This Picture just shows me how far we have come in technology. This TV is big and bubbly looking. And I know the picture, and sound was not very good. I can remember having one of these TV's as a child.

Part 2

This 10 min documentary was about the history and photography abilities in 1946. The video came with no sound, but did show some steps in how photos were produced in this time. The video showed scenes from different photo shoots, movies being made, and other random scenarios. It also showed the type of equipment they used to use, and how the pictures would turn out. Back in 1946 photography was also considered to be motion pictures, so the video also showed some of the advances in video like slow motion. The only thing I wish this video had was sound explaining some of the equipment and processes.

Three sources for free music downloads.
1.iTunes
2.www.Myspacemusic.com
3.www.amazon.com

Free Songs New Song
1. A Little More Country Than That by Easton Corbin was downloaded from iTunes.

Free Older Songs
1.Heathen(The Rays) by David Bowie was downloaded from Amazon.com
2.Detroit City by Alice Cooper was downloaded from Amazon.com.

Trying to find free music on the internet is not as easy as it may seem. Many of the websites advertise for free music, but it does not really end up being free. A few of some major sites like myspcae.com, amazon.com, and iTunes provide some free music, but it is not going to be the mainstream music you hear on the radio, or TV within the past few years. However, it is a great way to listen to music you may not have heard of before and widen musical ear.

lab 9

Pandora.com I would think is the most popular site of these four sites, but after visiting all of them is also the least impressive. Pandora allows you to search for music by genera or artist. When you find an artist it playa music from that artist but also other artist that might interest you. Pandora only allows you to skip a song a certain amount of times, so if you have already skipped a few songs and want to skip more, you can’t. With Pandora you’re stuck with what it gives you, all you can do is mute it which I find very irritating. The only thing good about Pandora is the music is continuous. It also gives you the option to buy the music that you listen to.

Lastfm.com operates like Pandora in the way that it gives you the option to search by genera, artist, and it plays artist other that what you what. However, lastfm is better in the fact that it is continuous play, and you can SKIP the track if you wish. I also like lastfm because it gives you a small biography of the artist you are searching for. It also gives you to buy songs or CD's of the music that you are listening to.

Grooveshark.com was by far my most favorite site to get music. You can search by songs, album, or artist. The site gives you just music from what you search, not junk like the other sites. But what I really like about the site is that you can create your own play list that will play continuously, and only the songs you choose.

SUMMARY
All of the online radio players had some similarities with related artist, but there were also some differences. Grooveshark.com seemed to be the most different when it came to related artist. The artist Lil Wayne seemed to have the widest range of related artist within all of the players. And all of Kelly Clarkson's related artists were mostly the same.

Excercise 1.
YouTube.com
Youtube.com is a good site to watch clips that are homemade. The video plays in no time at all and did not buffer in the middle of the video. The sound and video quality are not that great because anyone can upload videos onto this site. While viewing the video you can choose to watch it in 3 different screen sizes from small, medium, and full screen. Youtube.com also gives you the option to post vides directly onto facebook, twitter, or myspace. Youtube gives the viewer suggestions of other videos to watch. It also gives the viewer the option to sign up for the site for additional perks like viewing mature content, and subscribing to a person's videos. On youtube you can search for videos by channels, shows, and categories. However, youtube does not show full TV shows and movies like other sites can do. Youtube also has an option to embed a video onto another site, and gives you many options on how you want to do it.

veoh.com
Veoh.com is a good site for viewing TV shows, TV show clips, and older movies. There no homemade videos to view on this site like on youtube. When viewing a video there is a short delay while the video loads, and short commercials that play before the video, and if you are watching a full TV show or movie there are commercials that come on and interrupt the show periodically. You can search for videos on this site by genera, network, or by just typing the correct name of the show in the search box. Like youtube you can also create a username and password for additional perks.

Hulu.com
Hulu.com is like veoh.com, you can only watch TV shows and clips.
However, hulu does not allow you to watch movies. To view shows intended for older audiences you must have a username and password. You do not have to wait for a show to buffer, but there are short commercials that interrupt TV shows periodically. Hulu gives you options to share videos on myspace, facebook, and twitter. You can also embed videos onto sites. Hulu gives the viewer many viewing options like the size of the screen, brightness of picture, and even the option to watch in high resolution. You can browse shows by category, channels, and popularity. When it comes to watching TV shows i prefer hulu over veoh because of the options and ease of use.

Excercise 2.

Here is the Hulu.com embedded video. Embedding a video from hulu.com is very easy. You click on the video to watch is and right to the side of the video is the option to embed the video. You would click the embed option, and then it tells you to just copy and paste this code onto your page or blog, and from there it works. However, on some videos you want to watch hulu will redirect you to another page (like comedy central below) and you have to find the embedding option on the page that hulu redirects you to.

Here is the Youtube.com embedded video. Embedding a video from youtube.com was also very easy. to the left of the video it gives you the code to copy and paste onto your site to embed a video. However, there are also options to customize your video. You are given the option to make the screen bigger, and add a colorful border on your video that you want to post. You are also given the option to put privacy settings onto the video.

Veoh did not have an option to embed a video. However, here is the link to view a clip of a t.v show with someone way different than me. This site would not let you embed a video, but it did give you options to share this video on myspace, twitter, and facebook.
